UCSI University 10th Annual Public Health Campaign 2011
The UCSI University Pharmacy Student Association (UCSIUPSA) of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is organising its 10th Annual Public Health Campaign 2011 at the Berjaya Megamall Kuantan, Pahang, on the 9th and 10th of July 2011 from 10.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.
Themed “Care for Health, Prevent Obesity”, the Campaign objective for this 10th Annual Public Health Campaign is to increase public awareness on obesity and its prevention, since obesity is one of the risk factors for many other chronic diseases. This Campaign will include an exhibition in the form of posters, printed information, and power point presentations on the Campaign themes, as well as free screening tests for the public which include waist-to-hip ratio measurement, blood pressure test, body fat test and blood glucose test.
Besides that, there will be yoga and karate performances aimed at promoting public interest and educating them about including exercises into their daily life, as well as detailing the benefits of doing exercises. For the benefit of the public, a compounding demonstration booth will also be setup on site. By visiting this booth, the public will be sensitised to the principles and methods of compounding for a hands-on experience in compounding under the guidance of an on-the-spot instructor. In addition, Counsellors, who are registered pharmacists, will also be available to provide counselling and to answer any enquiries throughout the Campaign.
The UCSIUPSA Public Health Campaign has been an annual event since 2002 and had contributed in bringing health awareness to several locations including Ipoh, Taiping, Klang, Sunway, Mambau and Melaka. The 9th Annual Public Health Campaign held at the Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall in Melaka on the 29th and 30th of May 2010 had a total of 1220 participants. Hence, more participants are expected to take part in this Campaign “Care for Health, Prevent Obesity”.
