PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION ACT (ACT 709) 2010
The Personal Data Protection Act 2010 was passed in Parliament in 2010 and came fully into force on 15th Nov 2013
As such for those affected it is compulsory to register your organisation under the Personal Data Protection Act as soon as possible.
According to the PDP department, one of the purpose of the Act is to provide protection for an individual's personal information to be processed for the purposes of commercial transactions.
Examples of data protected by the Act are:
- Name and address
- Identification card number
- Passport number
- Health Information
- E-mail Address
- lmages recorded by the closed-circuit television (CCTV)
- Information contained in personal files

All organisations (that means also community pharmacies) must apply for a licence and at same time adopt certain principles (Code of Practice) in handling these data.
There is a pre-registration before applying for the licence and it can be done online at

The PDP Department has requested MPS to work out a Code of Practice to comply with the PDPA in the pharmacy sector. This is in the process and the target date is set to be April 2020
Meanwhile please register your organisation with the PDP Department without delay
CPD POINTS FOR YEAR 2021 PHARMACIST ANNUAL CERTIFICATE
Have an early start to accumulate your CPD points this year. This is because this year's points can be use for your year 2021 Pharmacist Annual Certificate ( to be applied in year 2020)
Please note also that you are now only require to accumulate a minimum of 20 CPD points for the year, in line with the decision of the National CPD Committee and endorsed by the Malaysian Pharmacy Board.
However the CPD points are not compulsory until relevant sections in the Pharmacist Act 1951 has been amended. Even then you are encouraged to acquire the minimum points for your own knowledge and for your personal development

REGULATE ONLINE SALES OF MEDICINES TO PREVENT HARM, FIP
Member States at the World Health Assembly were today urged to put in place regulatory frameworks that effectively prevent substandard and falsified medicines from reaching and harming patients, including regulation of online sales of medical products. FIP was speaking to ministers at the assembly on behalf of Fight the Fakes, a campaign contributed to by over 35 organisations committed to preventing patient exposure to counterfeit medicines worldwide.
USE OF RECOMMENDED MINIMUM SELLING PRICE
The Community Pharmacy Chapter of MPS is conducting a study on the use of Recommended Minimum Selling Price (RMSP) in addressing the Discount Culture for Dispensed Medicines amongst Community Pharmacists in Peninsular Malaysia
This study is to research into how the Discount Culture has impacted the Community Pharmacy Practice using Dispensed Medicines (Group C) and use of RMSP to manage it.

MEDICINE PRICING IN MALAYSIA
According to SwipeRx survey it was found that:
95% of pharmacists said their patients are very concerned about the price of medicines. However patients fail to request generic medicines 51% of the time. What matters most to patients on generics vs orginators are price (55%), efficacy ( 23%), recommendations from HCPs (12%), manufacturer (6%), knowledge of medications (3%) and online references (1%)
